lt1 swap vats woes take 2
Im still a little confused. I have an 89 TA, with vats.. I'm using the right key (worked b4) and I'm using same vats, same starter system.. But I have to jump gnd to the starter solnoid to make it start and its not sending the right signal to pcm.. I'm thinking I am missing something. Even if the 89 VATS isn't compatible with the 94 pcm, I should still be able to crank the engine.. Anyone know where the vats is in an 89? Or have an prints on it? Or what conditions need to be met for it to enable the starter relay?

Sure do! IS your security light staying on or does it go off after 2 seconds? Do you have a pin-out of the PCM, check to see if you have the VATS control module wire going to the right connection. This diagram I'm sending shows a 91 formula but the module is in the same spot.

don't like where that is! .. I'll check the sec light. but the vats wiring is untouched.. except the wires going into the engine compartment. on the 89 harness there are 2 connectors going to the ecm. there are 2 other connectors that connect the MIL light, aldl stuff etc to the engine compartment.. anyone have a print on this? Maybe 1of thesewires is power or gnd andidon't have ithooked up.. I know 1of them (Blue) is the fuelenable signal. wired or not still starts for 2 sec then dies.

Here is a picture of the VATS schematic for a 89 camaro. It is basically the same for your car. Notice the pin-out on the ECM and check to see if you have it pinned right on the new ECM. The Module is not that hard to remove, it is on the firewall beneath the defroster vents, two bolts and it is out. The fun part is getting to those two bolts.

ok.. -Security light comes on for 2 sec then goes off.
-Car will not crank unless I jump relay gnd to gnd.
-In above diagram, I confirmed B8 ORG has 12V
-A4 Sec Light Works
-A1 I assume has power because it comes from ecm power which has power and pnk/blk at ecm fuse has 12V
-A2 has a voltage on it. it is like 8V or 10V or something when key is on crank but clutch not in.. then 3V when clutch in. (should be 2.5V)
-B2 & A6 they are the key.. they work cause I never touched em.
-B1 !! Don't know where this is.. I am thinking that perhaps it may not be connected.
I really need a print of that unknow connector near the old ECM location.. has the Fuel Enable wire, MIL wire, Data wires for ALDL
and a bunch of others..
Anyone have anything on this? Its labled in letters. 2 connectors which are black that plug into a white connector in the 89 engine harness.

If you are talking about the fifteen pin connector at the firewall here it is. "B1" goes through this connector and is a ground in the engine bay. Look at pin "L" on it.

Sorry, my bad. Go up to that first schematic that I posted, you will notice that there is a splice(S217 in the I/P harness behind the right hand side of the instrument cluster) coming off that Black/white wire at "B1". one wire then goes to Pin "M" of connector C207 and becomes a ground (G112) which connects to the rear of the left cylinder head. You will also notice that second black/white wire that comes off that splice (S217), it goes to pin "A" of the ALDL as a ground for the ECM as you will notice in this schematic of the grounds. Sorry 'bout that.

OK, progress. I put GND on C207 "M" and now it has the proper 2.5V on pin "L" and starts without jumping the starter relay. But still only runs for 2secs
So everything looks good for VATS but either the pcm doesn't like it or I have something else messed up. I assume it doesn't like it.
In thast whole c207 .. I only have 2 wires connected, L & M ..
Anyone have anything docs on what these wire do? the picture above is pretty vague as to what each wire does.. I mean 1 wire doesn't do 3 things.

Good morning Thirim,
Which one do you want the info on? Yes, some of these wires do serve three or four functions when there is a splice adding extra wires at certain points in the circuit. For your fuel control, you will need to connect wires to pins "K" & "N". The wires for your injectors go to pins "B" & "G". Do you need the schematics for them?

yeah, that would be great.. I put power to my injectors in the engine bay, but I didn't do anything with the idle air.. maybe that's why it is shutting down.. what I really need is the whole damn book
.. ebay isn't kind to me though. be nice to see where the idle air stuff goes.. I assume the LT1 pcm should do all that itself and have nothing to do with the rest of the car.
thanks for the help.
and Good Afternoon
