anyone else had jacking problems?
Didn't know where else to put this one. Since I was jacking the car up in preparation for pulling the engine I figured I ask here first. While trying to get my red IROC high enough off the ground to drain the transmission and unbolt it from the cross member, etc. I had something happen I wouldn't have believed if I hadn't seen it. I put the jack under the frame (the right piece that runs from the main frame out towards the door post) on the drivers side. I jacked it up till the tire was a couple inches off the ground and then thought, "why stop here, the higher the better, so I can get the blocks/jackstands under it). I got it another inch or two off the ground and noticed that even the drivers side rear tire was starting to get some distance between it and the fender well. All of the sudden the car started coming back down. My first thought was to wonder how the jack could have failed. Then I saw the jack wasn't failing, the frame was collapsing upwards. The car is an '86, but has no rust problems. It is a super looking car bottom to top. I'm thinking maybe that piece of frame stout enough to get the tire off the ground for tire changing purposes, but not stout enough to take part of the weight of the back of the car, too. Anyone else ever see this?

It happend to me a little bit one time. You need to make sur that the jack is on the frame rail support all the way. You can't really use the little lip that is on the jack. It is not strong enough there to hold the weight of the car. My GFX ended up sticking out a tiny bit after that. I was pretty ticked off. Now I just jack the car up from the K-member or rear pumpkin.
the old lady that owned my car before me tried to jack the car up using the floor pan right below where the driver's feet would go. i ended up having to put a new floor pan in to fix the big hole

I have bent all of my factory jack points because THEY ARE JUNK!! Use the control arms or something solid.
