LT1 Swap issue (motor mounts)
LT1 Swap issue (motor mounts)
I am not a big poster here anymore but I am tooling a LT1 into a 87 vert IROC....
and it seems the bulk of people have said "it drops right in if you use the 1LE pully" well that statement is false.... you have to redrill the passenger side for the mount to bolt in and provide a straight install... so thanks to the load of mis-information I have rebuild the suspanesion just to take it all apart so I can reach the nuts for the motor mount and relocate it.. I think something like this should be made more apparent esp. if there is a "LT1 swap faq" thread
something like this really gets me to wonder if these people actually done this swap because it is VERY apparent when trying to use the stock mount locations onthe K member

I recently read an article about doing the LT1 swap that made it sound like you need to use the mounting holes for the A/C bracket to mount the LT1 in a 3rdGen.
I never heard anything about that until I read this article from CarCraft.

Here's a link to the article I'm talking about -

It's a LT1 swap for a Malibu but they're mounting up the engine where a 305 used to reside just like we would with a 3rdGen.

If you are swapping from a V-6, yes, you have to move the mounts forward, that has been posted everywhere. It has also been posted that you must use the 3rd gen clamshells that bolt to the engine block.

I'm confused. which way did you have to move the mounts? EVERY V8 to LT1 swap so far has not had to move the mounts. NONE that I know of, and I've helped most of the guys on this board who have done their swaps. Don't get "miffed" at us for "screwing up" and not posting it since none of us have incountered such a problem.
And remove the "front skirt for more room?" what are you talking about?

I dont know what you screwed up, but you did, the motor drops straight in with no problems of clearance, not even anything remotely close using the 1LE a/c delete idler and stock 3rd gen mounts.
