Moving to Engine Swap forum.

See the "Important/Useful" sticky above about the V6 to V8 swap.

A TPI equiped 305 or 350 would fill the bill. Power and economy would depend upon how you equip it (cam, exhaust, PROM tuning, rear end gears, auto vs. manual tranny, etc.).

Car: 85 firebird
Engine: Pos 2.8 pulled and replaced with a 350 tpi motor converted to carb.
Transmission: 700r4, vette servo, shift kit, hayden 15"x8" trans cooler.
A carbed 350 is an easy swap compared to fi v8. And the 350 would probably be the best to mod and get power out of for cheap. BUT you have emissions to deal with etc.
