Speedo help needed

I just finished an engine swap in my 91 bird. I pulled the v6 out, and put in a 305 tpi.

I used the SD painless wiring harness. Everything works correctly except for the speedometer.

I think it has something to do with the 15 way ip connector on the interior passenger side of the car not being used anymore.

Can anyone help me?

How do you have the VSS wired up?

I assume your speedo reads zero. When i did my v6 to v8 swap i needed a vehicle speed buffer. Anyway the signal comes from the speedo sensor then back to the computer on a v6 car then to the speedometer. If i remember correctly some ecms read the data from the speedo sensor while others run a speed buffer. Depending on the year of your ecu. What you will have to do it find out if your ecm has the speed buffer built into it or not. Then find which wires are for your speedometer in the 15 pin connector. (it is their i belive 2 wires Brown and somthing else). Then just splice into the ecu or run those wires to a speed buffer in the correct order. I think this will help.

If you are using a 7730 ECM, then the speedo should be getting it's signal direct from the ECM from a brown wire.
The VSS feeds the computer with a yellow and purple wires.
