82 'Bird v-6: V8
hey,
Well i'm in a tight jam here... i have a 67 mustang that i looove so much its not even funny. but, i can't afford it. just no way, even if i could afford all the parts the insurance and gas where i am is just nuts. to the extream.
Yesterday, while looking through a flyer, there was an 82 'Bird forsale for 550. i just called the guy (its a 2.8, auto) and he said that the engine would have to be replaced. but, he said that the body was perfect. flawless.
As the story goes i'm torn between the too.. i can't drive the mustang for another 1-2 years, and let a lone afford. the 'Bird is a lot more realistic right now, i just doin't know what to do.
Now, i was woundering what is to turn a F-body V6 car into a V8 car? i can do all the work myself and am mechanicly inclined, but i just don't know the F-bodys that well. any help would be great.
thanks.

DON'T DO IT. IF YOU LOVE YOR MUSTANG SO MUCH, YOU WILL BECOME A BIRD BASHER! WALK, RUN, HITCH-HIKE, OR BEG BOROW AND STEAL FOR A RIDE BUT DON'T BRING YOUR SOB STORY OF HOW YOUR PONY WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN A BIRD.
All you people who live by a certain "brand" only contribute to trolling, bashing and whining when you get on to a forum where you can complain!
Why don't you post the same story on a mustang site and see what responses you get. Then you'll know what I mean!

wao, take it easy man, you got me all wrong.
i didn't say anything about my mustang being better, but the mustang does mean a lot to me. that doesn't mean that its the only car i'm going to drive.
i'm going to take of the bird, i have a real soft spot for them.
and theres not way in hell that i'm a brand specific type person. where did you get that from anyway?
also, theres no way i'm going to let the 'Bird go a-stray if i get it...

Ok guys, lesse if I can help out here... I've known this guy for a couple years now, since he got the mustang.
He's not one of those tight wad "____ sucks, _____ kicks ***" guys like most people on the Street Racing board. He knows my Z28 pretty well, and he really likes 3rdgen F-bodies.
Its just that the '67 is his baby. Its a long term project car (ie. 1-2 years before he can drive it) and he wanted to get something cool to use as a daily driver, because the driver he's got now its pretty lame lol.
None - Don't do the Pontiac swap on that car... its not what most would call a "budget swap" like a 305 or 350 Chevy is. Even that can be uncheap(?) sometimes.
Did he say whats wrong with the motor? Does it run? Smoke? It might just need a tuneup. Never know untill you visit

thanks adam,
but i really don't know whats going to become of my mustang, looking really dim right now.
as for the guy with the bird he said that it spun a main bearing. at least that what i think he said, it was over the phone and he had a really big french accent. how uncheap is it to turn it to a v-8 car? (i don't know the prices of any 3rd gen parts)

youll need the v8 and a v8 transmission and engine mounts have to be moved but me and ljnowell did them on his car in about an hour .. then your going to need a new y pipe and either headers or v8 manifolds a radiator and some wiring knowledge and everything that goes with the v8 ie...alternator powersteering and hoses ....and other missilanious items but dont let that detour you its not that hard of a swap to do really just can get a little pricey if your buying all new components like ljnowell said if you have access to a parts yard that has plenty of thirdgens its pretty easy ...i say go for it buy the bird and v8 that bad boy .........as for going with a true pontiac engine in it your gonna need the same parts just ones made for the pontiac engine like the headers and y pipe have to be made for the engine which will run the cost up id say go for the small block build up
