LT1 ignition question

I did an LT1 swap a while back and everything electrically works fine. I have been considering removing the LT1 wiring and running it with TPI wiring. This would only require drilling the intake for a distributor. Would there be any disadvantage to this? This way I would not have to deal with the optispark and I would be deleting my MAS. A new opti can be bought for about $200, but I was wondering how my car would run with this configuration? I still have all my tune port wiring, so that wouldn't cost me anything.

TPI wiring plus ECM, good by flashing the PCM on the fly, and the programming isn't as good in TPI then PCM.

I think it would be a bad idea.

if you really hate the Opti. There is an option to go coil packs. just go that route better then going back to TPI

I agree completely. All opti haters should really consider the Direct Opti multi coil conversion that is now forsale. It is super reliable and eliminates all of the coil rebound and durability problems the stock single coil opti is plagued with.

The idea behind this is that I already have all the TPI wiring. I would still be running a full LT1. The opti-direct kit costs about 5-600 dollars. I wasn't planning on using a stock chip. I would have a chip burned to suit my application. I would basically be running like a 93 setup.

I am only considering this. Nothing is carved in stone. I am just pondering the possibilities for my car. I understand the points that are being made, and I appreciate them.

You lose Sequential firing of the ignition.

You delete a maf that has quite a high HP capability for the tiny bit of airflow it might disturb.

Cant pass emissions with the setup, to some this is an issue, others not.

Get worse fuel mileage.

Get rid of the highly accurate opti which can be used in conjunction with a very nice multi coil setup.

Sure go ahead, drill away It will work fine.

However the only way i would consider you sane is if you were planning on running high boost and doing it to use a 749 ecm.

This was only a consideration. I was thinking of trying this to see how much easier it would be for someone starting with TPI to swap to an LT1. If I did this I could always swap back. I could always plug the hole in the intake by putting a crank trigger style distributor in the back to bypass the optis high voltage side. There is a write up on cz28.com on doing this. I don't have emissions testing and this is not my primary transportation.
