looking for more power under the hood

ok im going to get straight to this ...i bought a 86 iroc z thats kinda not doing to well right now for 1800 bucks ...basically the only thing thats good is the body ...the transmission and engine are ok ...once i replace a few things here and there but here we go with the questions

im looking for a bigger engine and im wondering whats the biggest i could put under the hood and could i get a breakdown list of how i should go about doing everything from start to finish? ...its a completely stock automatic right now and its my rolling project

my goal is 600-700 hp under the hood if possible (which i heard is) so im wondering how big of a engine i can put under the hood and how big of a blower can i put onto that? and how much am i looking at for everything total....

this is like a year project car so, time and patience are already in place since i need to start saving up tons of money i know ...

I would work from the rear forward. These factory rears are a joke and you'll only make yourself mad by doing constant rear end replacements by throwing in a large motor. Get a nice Ford 9" or GM 12 bolt first since it will still work with your current drivetrain-just need a new driveshaft.

If motor is still running good enough, move into the tranny department. Decide what the cars overall purpose will be Auto cross, street/strip, strip, cruiser, etc...let that be the guide for the right transmission for the job since a toy to beat around town in will really not benefit from the addition of overdrive you can save money by building a 3 speed and any of the bells and whistles that can go along with the cars intended usage.

After that I'd start looking into suspension mods per cars intended application. You dont need tons of hp to make a car work, but by going this route everything is in place for the added power in the future. Nothings worse than installing a big hp motor and cant make the car do anything but sit and spin.

Motor, well any sbc will fit and they can be cid range from 267-454cid you'll have to be the judge on what displacement you want and what your ultimate goal is with either a N/A motor at 6-700 hp, or power adder 6-700hp. BBC will also fit with cid range of 396-496 since the block is the same demension. Anything bigger and you have to get into the tall deck block and then initerference will then become an issue.

You can make more power on the same budget with a BBC than a sbc since it has more displacement, but then you have other issues you have to contend with since they did'nt come factory with BBC's. The motor department can be as simple or as complicated as your wallet allows.

well im looking for strictly high end street performance ..basically if i find a race or take it to the track i want to do well but i still need to keep it legal since its my only car, and i was looking at the 12 bolt rear ends ...would i be capable of lifting the car and doing all of that on my own ...because i would like to get to know my car better than just hand everything off to my mechanic and never be able to tell whats in it ...

www.moserengineering.com ...i was looking at their 12 bolts ...they seem pretty nice but which one should i get? ...money really wont be an issue because this is an overtime project and should i pickup a drivetrain from there too?

I'm running the Mosier Ford 9" and have around $2400 in it complete.

Depending on weight of the car either a TH400 or Glide.

As long as you have the tools and basic know how, there is'nt too much on cars you cant do yourself.
