Doing something other then planned.
Please don't preach to me about going to a 350 or any other engine. I have my reasons for keeping the 305.
But I will accept crap about the combination if It doesn't look right. You the professionals, so please correct me if something won't work.
I am going to be stroking my 305 & use Vortec heads.
I'm wanting to get rid of the TBI now and replace it with a carb.
I'm going to be ditching the pollution crap (smog pump, ect., No sniffers or visuals here.).
I am also wanting to keep the air conditioning & cruise control (have a lead right foot).
I'm going to list everything that I currently have on my Must Order list for this rebuild. Let me know if I missed anything or if you would change anything.
335 Stroker kit
Vortec Heads Cast #10239906 64cc Chambers 170 int. / 1.94 ext. 1.5 lift (milled 0.20 ~ ported & polished)
Edelbrock non-egr Performer Vortec intake (p/n 2116)
650 cfm Edelbrock Thunder series carb (electric choke p/n 1806)
Mallory HEI Dist. (jegs #650-8548201C)
Mallory HEI coil (jegs #650-29212)
Mallory AFPR (jegs #650-4207)
Fuel preasure gauge (Does this come electric so it can be monitored in the cab?)
Comp high energy cam grind # 268H (p/n 12-210-2)
700R4 TCC lockup switch (p/n 60109 from www.northernautoparts.com)
Painless fan relay kit~ 185* on/170* off (jegs #764-30103)
Edelbrock Proflo Air Cleaner (p/n 1002)
Ofcourse a good set of shorty headers & exaust

Proflow is a no-go. Get a real air cleaner, not something that is going to either burst into flames or melt into the engine at the first backfire. A dual snorkel with ducting to cool air is the right way to go.
Stroker kit: Seriously reconsider the cost/benefit ratio. $700 for parts plus machining costs for 30 HP - not much of a return. Most of the gain you're going to see is from the other things you're doing. If you do a stroker, you need to make sure the cam won't get wacked by passing connecting rods. Block clearancing is required. More than likely your existing 305 shortblock will be in good enough shape to do the other things to it, saving a bunch of money. Mine had 141k on it when I started the mods in the sig, it has 167k on it now.
If you insist on going with the Vortecs, get the ones modified for .525" lift. Then get screw-in rocker studs. Have them milled .035" to get the chamber size down (or whatever it takes after the porting/polishing to get them down to 58cc). You will also need to have the intake manifold milled to match. On the other hand, World S/R Torquer 305's will benefit from porting, but otherwise are ready to roll and use "regular" intake manifolds.
I wouldn't go with that carb, but that's a personal preference. If you intend to drag race, get a double pumper.
You're going to need a higher stall torque converter.
