305 TPI to 350 carb t-56
305 TPI to 350 carb t-56
ok first im 18 and am about to sell my 98 v6 camaro. i have considered getting a vert but to my dismay they only come in 305's. i have thought of the change over to a 350 and carb. My cars worth about 5k and ive got 1k saved so about 5.5k to work with including purchasing the car. I am almost witouth a doubt going carb due to my severe hate for computers and love the flexibility i can get from a carb. so i am up to any suggestions, my goal would be gettin a 350-400 hp daily driver and i dont care too much about the milage as long as freeway is about 15. o and if at all possible id like to get a t-56 in there, but that would be a bonus, otherwise a 700-r4
can i get some thoughts on what i should modify and wat to start out with, ill be doin all my own work, with the help of my auto teacher. just tryin to get some ideas, ive considered goin blower but not wanting to lower compression that much. any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated

Try looking around. You aren't the only one who has done the 305 to 350 swap and placed a carb on top....
Aside from that, specify a budget.

So you need a suggestion on a car purchase, and then swap suggestions?
Are there emissions laws where you live? In MA, 1983 and back don't have to pass... so I would suggest an 82/83.
1988-1990 Irocs would be my favorite, for many reasons.
Maybe get something like an 83/84 Z28 with the L69, so you can use the exhaust and the intake setup?
There are tons of choises! Check out ebay motors for some decent deals or just pics to see what you like.

Since you are 18... what kind of mechanical skill do you have? Do you have other people (who know what they are doing) to help you?
I ask, because I got my Z28 when I was 17 (im 19 now) and I thought "ok, the 305 is dead... how hard can it be to swap in a 350?"
Turned out to be alot more complicated than I thought. Looking back, it was really just trivial simple stuff, but at the time, they were huge hurdles. I was lucky, because I have an uncle whos a mechanic, and a cousin who could be.
If only I knew then, what I know now
If you can do it, I say get a 3rdgen vert with a dead 305 and drop in a 350.
