LT1 swap, computer question
How hard is it to find a computer for a '95 camaro LT1? I have the option of getting the block, heads, rotating assembly and all that off a '95 LT1 from a camaro, but with no intake or ECU (PCM?). I can also get the intake, runners, throttle body, etc. from a LT1 caprice, I'm not sure what year though. These will be very cheap, so I'm trying to decide whether to go with the actual fuel injected setup, or just convert to carb. I don't think said setup will include the optispark, so... Yeah, anyone have any input? Thanks!

Easy as 1-2-3

Thats for a OBD II (96-97 LT1) car though, you want one from a 94-95. They come on ebay a lot, also check camaroz28.com's marketplace, lots of people sell them.

That's good news about the computer. What about the optispark? Is that hard to get/expensive? I saw the Delq (sp?) optispark replacement kit, which looked cool, but that was a bit out of my price range. Thanks!

Optis can be had from jason cromer for about $240 complete. Look for his number at camaroz28.com. Just do a search. Autozone and O'reilley's also carries them. Their pretty expensive for a distributor. The cap and rotor for a 95 is $150, the actual distirbutor is about the same price, Jason can get you a discount if you need the entire distributor. Most often you just need to change the cap and rotor.
another thing about the Opti, everyone who is new to the LT1 thinks it HAS to be replaced when you get the engine, you don't. Yes, some people do have a lot of problems with them, others don't. I'm one of the ones who hasn't had a single problem with the optispark, and I beat the crap out of my car and don't hesitate to drive it in the rain.

The opti does get a bad wrap but it SHOULD be changed when swapping in an Lt1. Granted that there is more room than if it was in a 4th gen, but it is so much easier to do while the engine is on a stand. Why be hunched over the side of the fender or nose or getting dripped on by coolant later. They last quite some time and changing it only once sounds like a good deal to me. I'm a firm believer in changing everything necessary prior to it going in. Yes it may be expensive, but this is not a place to cut corners.

OK, thread semi-revival time. If I were to swap in the 350 block and heads, with a carb intake manifold and my stock CC-Quadrajet on there, would the computer be able to handle the different engine? If not, what would be my options as far as reprogramming and whatnot. Thanks.
