305 to 350 swap--What should i know--
Hi guys, I am going to swap a 350 in my 305, TPI, 87, Trans-Am. Is there anything i should look out for? I dont know if all the sensors work since i have never seen the car actually run (the car was a freebee because the 305 threw a rod) Anyway, I plan on reuseing the TPI and all the sensors, just swaping a 350 in there.
So lets say the sensors and computer dont work, how hard would it be to turn it into a carbed car? It has a 700R4 tranny in it, would that be a problem? (vacume or electronic controlled?) Any other info you could add would be great
Thanks!!

Wait, I'm lost.
The computer/sensors in your car are no good? Or you don't know?
The 350 should drop right in (depends on year, you might need a new flywheel/flexplate or headers because of the dipstick). The injectors and the computer will work, but it would be much better to get the 350 ones.
Also, what motor do you have now? The exhaust might choke the 350...

AKA - knock sensor and module. 305 and 350 versions are different. Just tell the parts counter person you have an '87 350 L98, and the right parts will come back at you.
Most likely the 350 will go in place of the 305 just fine, depending upon the vintage of the 350, of course, and the cam that it has. The '87 TPI is a MAF (mass air flow) system, which is pretty tolerant of displacement changes. You may want to go with larger injectors, which is what the factory did for 350's vs. 305's, but most of the time just an adjustable fuel pressure regulator will fill the bill.
In order to be more specific, exactly what 350 is going back in has to be known.
As for the EFI to carb conversion, there are links to a tech article on the TGO home page that describe the process, and plenty of posts on the Carb forum about it as well.
