Pontiac 455 location

deos anyone know a good place to locate a used or rebuilt Pontiac 455 block? is it reasonably possible that i could find one in a junkyard or scrapyard that would be useable *no cracks or stress fractures* thanx

Check your local machine shops. I bought my '70 455 block all machined, hot tanked, and magnafluxed for $150. You'ld be amazed at what people leave and never pick up at a shop.
BTW I bought the fresh crank from the same shop for $100 more.

Wow, thats awesome, you got lucky...at this point the cheapest 455 i block i have been able to find was $500... which is not bad for something that hasnt been made for almost 30 years I guess, but Im really trying to keep costs down as much as possible for some good cylinder heads and eventually a blower. Thanx man

Most of the time if a certain machine shop has got something lying around, in the way they're not too interested in how rare it is. They would just like to get their money for the machining costs back out of it. I'm sure the guy was willing to give me such a good deal because he knew he could make more money of off me in the long run, seeing as I bought all of my other parts to put the 455 together through him.
