LT1 in a '91 auto/ TA...how much $$ is usually invested?

I have a '91 TA with a 5.0 auto. I would like to swap in an Lt1 some day and I was wondering, besides engine, harness, and ECm work; what else is needed?

Someone spoke of an A4 harness?

Does anyone have a parts list and price?

Also, will the LT1 hook up to the 700r4?

on this board... look up about 3 or 4 links... there you will find everything you need to know about swapping in the LT1, including prices.

the A4 is the RPO code for automatic. yes you will need the entire engine bay harness, which usuall incorporates the tranny wire hook ups.

BUT the LT1 had the 4L60E.. i know the 700R4 will bolt up, you will have to slightly modify the harness if any. Dont forget to get the PCM as well..

check out the thread titled "LT1 Wiring for Dummies" on this board

also dont be afraid of the button

type in LT1 and you'll get a few hundred links to threads already discussed.

Unless you want to play games with the speed sensor issues you'll want to get the trans with the motor.

After that as little as $500 in extras if you do your research, talk to the right people etc, thats without a/c, which of course will add to the cost.

Main things needed.

Custom fuel lines
custom power steering lines
rad hose reducer if using stock thirdgen radiator
air intake setup
programming to remove vats, or vats bypass module.

Anyone did the swap and has AC? I wouldn't do it w/o AC. I live in AZ, summers in a black car are brutal. I used to have an '85 black TA and no ac. Not fun.

I have a/c. my first tip, GET A CORVETTE LT1. This will greatly simplify your life since you want a/c. If all you can get is an F-Body LT1, you'll have to notch the crossmember in order to clear the a/c compressor. then you'll have to get a set of custom lines made, or do a search for a/c and LT1 on this board as we discussed a while back a new hose block that should work to make it pretty easy to hook up the lines. Once you have the lines hooked up to the 3rd gen evap canister and condensor, you're good to go, just have the system purged, put a new filter in, and charge it with R134a
