350 issues
I have just started the project of putting an old 350 into my old Camaro. It consists of a 350 4 bolt with modern vortec heads.
Heres the problem: I'm out of money, and after pulling the heads off, I noticed that cylinder no 1 is pretty badly scored, probably from a broken ring. My question to those interested is WHAT TO DO?????? My thoughts are:
1. Leave it and slap the new heads on top
2. Get new rings for only that piston
3. Go into much deeper debt and get a whole new rotating assembly, have the block machined, yadda yadda yadaa

4. Take the bus until you've saved enough money to go through the bottom end.
Rings on #1 ain't gonna cut it. It may run for awhile with a broken ring, but you're likely to burn a lot of oil and possibly score the cylinder beyond rebuild if you continue.
Or,
5. Find a servicable 305 long block that somebody is going to throw away because they saved enough to get a 350 of their own.
