questions about my swap

i got a 92 bird(origionally a 305 TBI/5-speed). i intended to drop in a carbed 400 sbc. my question is about the wirering. what do i keep from the stock wireing, and what to i cut off? all i want is heat, headlights, taillights, turnsignals, maybe wipers. so make it just so its street legal.

and the other question was about the gauges, is there any way i can get my dash to work with a carbed motor(no stock computer)? or will i have to get a dash out of a 85 bird? but if i do that ya think id be better off making my own autometer dash?

and the last, what do i need to keep from my a/c system to have it still work for the heat?

im trying to shed as much weight as possible also...

I think I'd add ignition power and alternator to that "need" list. Maybe even choke power.

Hook up the things you need, then I believe you'll find that the things you don't need will come out with almost no cutting - you might have to separate out some wires from a harness loom every once in awhile. The benefits are: 1) The whole job is cleaner, and 2) you won't be cutting out something that you may find out you need.

Weight savings will be almost nil. Cleaner engine compartment and no 12VDC shorts to ground are the true benefits.

Getting past emissions inspection - well, you're on your own there...

Your gauges are pretty primative. The Tach will run off the same ignition circuit your current setup uses, you just need to find the tach lead from the new coil/distributer. The coolant temp sender from your old engine should fit in the new engine. Fuel gauge will not be effected, since those wires run from the dash to the back of the car under your carpet. Your oil pressure sender from your old engine should fit on your new engine. Your TBI engine uses an electric speedo, but the "buffer" is mounted externally from the ECM, so just keep the sensor in the trans and keep the buffer under the dash hooked up and your speedo will still work.

about the speedo, i bought the car as a roller. i dont have the origional trans, and i doubt that i have the sensor, and i dont know what this "buffer" is or where it would be under the dash. does anyone have a picture?
