I've got a 93 chevy truck motor that I am going to put in my 87 T/A. The truck motor is a 350, but the engine that came in my car is a 305. I've taken care of everything except the cam. My car was supposed to come with a roller cam being that it was a tpi car. I haven't checked to see if the cam is a roller or not however. If it isn't a roller cam, does anyone know what the pros and cons of the truck cam would be? If it is a roller cam, I want to use it, but I was wondering if you have to do anything special to use the roller cam?

Providing your '87 motor has not been swapped out it is already a roller motor. The truck motor is a roller block but doesn't have a roller set-up. So you can use the block for a roller cam and such but the stuff that comes in it is a tappet set-up. The heads and cam in the truck motor are junk. They are non performing parts and need to go. Your best bet would be to find a cheap used LT1 or L98 cam.

The truck blocks often aren't finished machined for the roller cam components, however.
