305 heads on a 350?

305 heads on a 350?

need ta know if i can put a set of stock 305 heads on a 350 with a performer rpm camshaft.? was wondering i fit can handle it so yea. If you wouldn't mind i love to hear whats up

The heads should be verified for adequate clearance between the top of the valve guides and bottom of the retainers at the maximum lift. Typical clearance recommendation is at least .060". So, if your cam has .450" lift, you need at least .510" travel from valve seated to retainer against the guide.

In another post, you said something about the heads being stock. Most likely, the stock valve springs will not be up to the task. Mine floated at 5200 RPMs, reports of float at lower RPMs have also been seen. And, the springs may not have enough travel between seated height and coil bind - especially if shimmed to get decent seated force. Get new springs, you won't regret it.

As for the cam itself, you can do so much better with a more modern grind. Smoother idle, more low-end torque, same peak torque/HP. There really is no good excuse for Edelbrock to continue selling that thing.
