questions on 406 swap???

I am starting to build my 406 tomorrow and needed some help. Here is specs on it:
400 sbc 2 bolt main bored .030
bowtie heads 034 casting (2.02/1.6 valves)
stock 400 crank (3.75)
lunati bm II cam .480/.480
standard volume mellings pump
arp everything
edelbrock rpm air gap intake
quick fuel modified 4777 holley (650 cfm)
stock reconned' 400 sbc rods (5.565)
Speed pro 10.14 pistons (with 64 cc heads)

my question is I have a carter m6900 mech street pump would this be a good choice to run on this motor? or could I use the original fuel setup? Car is an 87 Iroc-z Convertible that had the lg4. I think I should run the m6900 but I was reading and saw carter also makes a return style mech pump. Would the electric in tank booster pump work without the ecm in the car anymore? if I just run the m6900 will my fuel gauge work correctly or will I need to find a pickup from an older car if so any recommendations on what kind of vehicle I should look for one from? Also I am using a stock 700r4 and torque converter for the time being will this hold up? Not really sure what my rear end gears are as I haven't even check yet. any idea on what most common was for the lg4?

Yes, but you'll need to re-wire it. I did this with my 86 Iroc. You'll need to run a constant line from the stock Fuel Pump Relay to the battery... then find yourself a good 12 volt (key on) source for it (as well as a ground, I used the firewall). The coil in the relay will not trigger itself, it will trigger only when the key is turned (provided you wire it correctly, of course).

The line that runs from the relay to the ECM... must now run from the relay, directly to the fuel pump itself. You'll also need to find it (the pump) a good ground (I grounded it on the frame, under the car, behind the rear seat)...

Get yourself a three port regulator, set it at 9-psi, and you're good to go.

9 psi is too high. 4-6 is all a carb needs.

The fuel pump power should also go through an oil pressure switch for safety's sake.

Why does all this look so familiar? Oh, that's right, the same thing was posted on the Carb forum.

If you post on multiple forums, please state that.

I'm so used to saying 9-psi, as this is what my application calls for. Yes, the most a small block would ever really need is between 4-5psi to run, and 6-7psi to keep up with any real mods thrown at it...

Without the ECM though, I'm not sure if it would even matter anymore.

hey five 7 was wondering if I ran the carter pump would I need a regulator or anything? was there any kind of regulator originally. I am not sure how it was originally setup as when I got the car it had an Edelbrock intake and an adapter plate going to a ford motorsports 2 barrel carb on the original 305. Let me know Advance auto has the return style carter you mentioned for $20.

The Carter does not require a regulator.
