Used or Cheap 350
I would like to know the best local or possible online places to purchase a used, good condition 350 or an inexpensive 350? I will be getting a new car soon, so I am going to park my Camaro and make it into a weekend toy. I want to start with ripping out the high mileage V6 and toss in a 350 with some performance goodies I have from the Trans Am.

Good & Used & Inexpensive
PontiacRacing,
RE: Good & Used & Inexpensive - Those words probably don't all belong in any one sentence.
My son and I are currently in the process of replacing our 305 with a 350 4-Bolt. The 350 was a "Gift" from a friend (but we gave him $50 for the trouble). It was supposed to be a "GOOD" engine. We sent it to the machine shop hoping we'd get away with the minimums...Cleaning, Bearings, Rings. Unfortunately, it needed a LOT of work to be repaired properly.
The GOOD motor needed a Re-Bore, therefore new Pistons, Crank Grinding, Line boring, etc. The GOOD motor is going to cost us about $900 for the block and head work(includes complete gasket kit, all bearings, oil pump, timing set).
Scroggins Dickey sells a GM 350 4-Bolt Crate motor BRAND NEW, ASSEMBLED, and WARRANTIED Long-Block for about $1300 (add $200 for shipping).
My son and I will enjoy the project regardless, but if we were looking for a better deal ($$$) we might have been better off with the crate motor.
We're just down a road a piece in Georgia. Most J.Yards around here will sell a 350 motor for about $100.00 (no warranty). But we wouldn't spend the hours installing it to find out it was piece of crap. It's a big darn job so far just getting the old one out and preparing the wiring and everything for the new one.
IMPO - There is NO WAY we'd spend the time to slap a J.Yard motor into the car without a trip to the machine shop!
Sincerely,
Kurt
