330 hp gm 350 crate motor
I am taking out the computer and the 305 tpi in my 86 z-28.
I have the new motor in but I am having a tough time getting the alternator brackets to fit. The papers with the motor tell you what gm part will fit it, but then it says if you use that one, you have to get a reverse rotation water pump. Well, the engine came complete. All I need to do it get the alternator, brackets, starter and power steering pump.
Also, the wiring harness is for a 2 lead alternator. Do I have to stay with that or can I go to a one wire alternator. What is the difference on those. besides the price.
any help will be appreciated

If it were mine I'd pull the entire assembly from the 305,replace the water pump w/ a new one(use the 305 part #),and bolt it all to the new engine. It's a clean, nice setup and it will simlify any maintanence in the future,(belts,alt.,etc.) because you just but it for the 305 like it was stock.

The HO Deluxe and stock '86 water pumps are the same, rotation wise. Not sure if the Deluxe pump has the ear needed to mount the alt bracket, though. Buy a new one for the '86 application and sell the crate part on eBay.
I wouldn't mess with a single wire alternator. As stated, just use the original type parts.
