TPI to LT1 swap questions
I have an 86 TPI and will soon be putting a 96 LT1 in it. I would like to know what to do about the VATS. I am under the impression that i can use my existing ECU, which does not have anything for VATS, so will a stock LT1 wiring harness work? Or will I need to drop $600 on a Painless wiring harness?
Also, does anyone make the fuel/power steering lines for this application or do I need to make them myself?
Thanks
-Scott

You would want to have VATS programmed out of the LT1 pcm. Most of us around here with the equipment will do it for little to no charge. Dont waste the money on a "painless" harness, it wont help you any over the stock harness other than lightening your wallet.
you can keep VATS if you want to, don't know that its much of a deterrant any more. just replace the VATS module with a new one and repin the connector, splice the blue wire into the correct PCM connector (don't remember off the top of my head) and you're good to go.

OK, so I can get the comp reprogrammed for that.
Another thing I was thinking about... 96 would be OBDII, which means there would be 2 O2 sensors. What would I do about this, seeing as I have no catalytic converter?
Thanks for the info so far

96 being obdII would have 4 o2 sensors, one in each bank in the manifold / Y pipe and one after each cat, my suggestion would be to get yourself an OBDI pcm and then get that programmed, the software is much cheaper when you want to program it yourself.

OBDI was 94 and back right?
Also, If i get it programmed without VATS, will those lines that would be going to the VATS need to go to a bypass module? Or could they just be tied up or cut off?
Thanks

P.S. - would a 94 ECM work with a 96 harness?

Some 95's were obdII but most were obdI, so you for the most part need a 94/95 pcm. You would just cut off or leave them alone for the vats wire in the harness. I believe there is a slight difference or two that you would have to change on the harness but IIRC it is very minimal.

OK...
Now as for this VSS I have been reading about... I will be using the stock 700R4 in my carn, and I have a tailshaft with an electric VSS in it that I am going to install to accompany my 4th gen interior gauges. Dow the ECM really need this VSS signal? Or since I am using the 700R4, which is not electronically controlled, can I just get a 93 throttle body cable bracket and leave it at that with no wiring to the VSS?
Thanks
