305 TPI to 70's 350
I just recently bought a 85 Trans AM, 305 TPI, Auto that has a bad fly wheel and other issues for $1000. My step dad knows a guy that wants to sell an 84 Camoro with a 70's 350 in it for 600. My step dad and I are going to split the cost because he needs a few things off of it and I am taking the motor, seats and possibly the carpet. So I will be spending another $300.
Any way......
We will be useing the 305 TPI heads on the 350.
From what I have read so far is that the 70's 350 had low comperssion ratios and low hp.
How can I incresse the cr with my 305 TPI heads?
We arent sure what year the 350 is...My step dad says he knows it is pre 76 from just looking at it.....but thats all we know right now. We are waiting for the guy to get his but in gear and make sure the car runs because it has been sitting for a while.
Im just getting into cars but my step dad has been working on them for years.
He currently has 2 69 firebirds, a 68 fireird, 66 GTO, 83 Trans Am with a 400 in it. He does all of his own work.
We have a car lift and engine lifts.
He doesnt think we will have much problems with the swap. I do plan on getting new gaskets for the 350 before we put it in.

Server went down while posting my original response. Let's see if I can remember what I said.
305 heads have 58cc chambers. 70's 350 heads had 76cc, typically. Just putting the 305 heads on will raise compression. What you need to watch is keeping it from being too high. That's a function of piston dish volume, deck height, head gasket volume, and chamber volume. If the pistons are stock or stock-type, you'll be fine because they're dished.

There are guys on here that used their stock ECM/injectors when doing this swap and they made it work (at least I think I recall seing a couple people post this), but I would recomend going with the 350 chip (or burning your own) and upgrading your injectors.
