Fuel Question?
I have already taken everything out of my donor car that I need.
So now before I put my engine and tranny in I am left to wonder.
Mechanical fuel pump or Electric?
This is a carbed motor and already has a mech pump,
I want to keep this, So where do i go from here.
Do I have to take out the electric pump or can I cut off power from it and use the mech pump?
What steps should I take?

If the in-tank is not operating for whatever reason, it should be removed.

My son and I pulled his tank today ('82 Z-28) for kinda the same reason. If you need a few pointers send us PM. It's a PITA but more time consuming than it is difficult.
[IMPO] - Do NOT cut a hole in your car to remove the pump. [IMPO] - Cutting a hole makes the vehicle unsafe, that's just my opinion but I think it's a good one.

Who in there right mind would cut a hole in their floor that sounds ghetto (no offense anyone) so, okay i drop the tank, take the cap off with a screw driver and hammer, take out the pump and then what? how do i make sure the mech lines get their fuel?

Apparently, it's a pretty common short-cut. I've seen one or two cut in the J.Yard. My son's Z-28 was butchered by a previous owner we just fixed it today.
#1 - Please drop the "Screw Driver" and grab a "Brass Punch" If you don't have a Brass punch, please use something other than steel! Sparks and Gas (or the remnants of fuel) don't mix well!! Besides, that retaining ring is pretty tender, brass is a bit softer.
#2 - Remove the pump from the assembly and use a chunk of good fuel line and stainless steel hose clamp to extend the pick-up to where the bottom of where the pump would have been (about 5" worth?) just a tiny bit (3/8"+/-) past the support loop for the bottom of the pump. We kept ours inside the loop.
#3 - Install a new sock on the end of the line. The sock from the pump may work. We secured it with a stainless steel hose clamp.
The other three lines (No Mods Needed); Return Line, Vent, Canister, That should do the trick...
P.S. I have attached an image of what the previous owner of our vehicle did.... It's not too bad but the hose he used was not rated for fuel and it's a little too long. He used a zip tie for the sock. We used a Stainless clamp. Sorry we didn't snap a photo of ours before we installed it.
Sincerely,
Kurt
