Car: drive 97 cavalier and have an 84 z28 H.O.
Engine: 87 tpi 305
Transmission: T-5 5 speed manual
305 h.o. carb into 305 tpi

i have and 84 z28 h.o. with the 5 speed and back in august it thru 2 rods thru the pan... i recently just got a 305 tpi with computer and harness. i needed to know what i have to do with the wireing to be hooked up to my gauges alreday in there and what to do about the fuel system because tpi use eletric fuel pumps and i dont know what is all need to do for the conversion. thanks

I'm pretty sure that you can drop the tank, take out your entire sending unit and replace it with a multiport sending unit so that you have your in-tank pump where it ought to be. You will be finding new wires to hook the pump up, though I'm sure. You're gauges should be okay. Your engine wiring is seperate from the main harness mostly and is easy enough to install. There are many threads that respond to most of these issues

It will take some time, but it is not that difficult. Be patient. No shortcutting, that will make a rat's nest out of your harness. Slow and easy, man. You will be happy when you are done.

Suggestion: Put the LB9 longblock in and keep the L69 induction and controls system. Sell the TPI equipment.

Reasons:

1. Much easier.

2. More power.

3. Will still get reasonable fuel economy. You can sell the TPI set-up for somewhere between $300-$500. Your break-even point with the difference in fuel economy will probably be sometime in 2015.
