price of tuning yourself vs. somebody else.
im trying to work up a budget for an ls1/t56 swap and a complete restoration (doing everything but spraying paint myself). i have 7,000 saved and im thinking thats enough to get started. by the time im done working with that ill have alot more to continue with.
ive been looking at custom tuning programs and hardware (such as ls1edit) for the ls1. everything seems to be around 500 dollars. how much does it cost to have somebody else tune your car?
to start out i am going with a stock ls1. so i would need to tune out the vats and other bs. down the road i will probly be doing heads/cam/headers/etc and would need a good tune. i have no tuning experience but im willing to learn.
anyways.. the bottom line is im trying to decide if i should just buy the stuff and teach myself how to do it VS. making multiple trips to a shop to tune it. cost and the quality of the tune are the major factors.

Well the thing about tunning it your self is you may speend lots of hours for what you could pay some one to do in a couple hours. But knowing how to tune is a good idea cause then your not limmited to other peoples ability. This is my one experience with an ls1 tunner. He got his car back after getting it tunned and thought he would fine tune it. Well the thing doesnt idle right and he has already leaned out ones and blew a ring land. I personally dont know how to tune but I am trying to learn. If you dont mind speending the time I say go for it. Get some books read up. See if there any dyno shops that let you just run your car and do your own tunning cause thats how you will figure out if your doing it right..
I hope that all makes sense I am a little tired.
