Engine swap time
Ok guys, I'm getting a 350 block from an '80s suburban. Now, I've been told that I'm going to need an '85 TPI intake base or drill a couple holes in my existing '87 base, this true? What else would I need for this swap, ecm? knock sensor? Anything I should be weary of? Tips? The block will be totally stripped down but I've been told it has X-Rods and dished pistons. I don't want anything greater than 9:5.1. This is going to be a driver during the summer months. What could I do with the heads that are on the engine, would L98's be better? I'll prolly go ahead and port out the intake, runners etc as I don't have enough coin yet to get myself a superram or HSR. I'll prolly do a cam also, any thoughts? I'm looking for around 300-350Hp and 400-450Tq. Those realistic numbers? This will be my 2nd engine build, but the first one didn't last too long. 383 Stroker that I just put together, grenaded my tranny and everything was sold.

The block you use doesn't make any difference to the intake, the heads do. If you use 86+ heads you don't need an 85 intake. The heads that come on a truck block will be garbage. If you found some decent 305 heads to port you'd get back some of your compression too.
