Opinions on a rebuild kit
I am going to be building a 350 from the ground up to drop in my camaro. This will be a weekend car with regular trips to the track. I cant afford to run race gas in it. I am thinking of getting this kit from Summit. Its part number fem-csmhp764-611. What do you think?

Here are my opinions, take them for what they are worth....
I am guessing that you are going to have a machine shop do the machine work. Work with a reputable shop and tell them what you intend to do. Let them order the proper parts (the labor rate is sometimes reduced when you get the parts from the shop, and the parts usually will not be too much more than Summit).
If you intend on building an engine from the ground up, build a stroker right out of the gate, you will be happier in the long run (again, my opinion). I know all too well that money can be an issue (took a year and a half to do my project), but if you do not intend on spraying or boosting it, a stroker to meet your needs may not be much more expensive.
The kit seems like a good deal, parts for the dollar, but there are some things I personally dont agree with. It looks like you are supposed to reuse your crank and rods, which means you wont be able to put much spray on it, which is fine if you dont use nitrous. I have a non-nitrous friendly engine myself with GM powdered metal rods and a Scat cast crank (still does what I want just fine).
The pistons in your kit are +.060. To me that is pushing it too far, but that can depend on the year of your block.
The pistons in your kit are dome and give a comppression ratio of 11.93 : 1 with a 64 cc head. This might very possibly push you to need race gas, especially if you use an iron head.
The kit also uses a high volume oil pump, which I personally do not agree with.
Again, I would just hold off on the kit and talk to the shop doing the machine work and get parts to fit your specific needs.
If you do end up ordering the parts yourself, I recommend Competition Products. They have alot more engine parts and kits in all price ranges than Summit and are the same price or cheaper on alot of their stuff. Call them and get a catalog. 1-800-233-0199
