aight here is the deal ... i can pick up a used 305 motor and a 5 speed tranny for $200 .... i dont know what this motor or tranny came out off ... but i was wonderin if it would be worth the time and money to put it my camaro... the camaro is a 90 rs with a auto transmition... seeing as how this is my first swap i dont know if i want to deal with trying to put something in that is goin to be really really hard like i think the transmition might be. will my transmition work with the motor or should i try to put the 5 speed in or find another automatic tansmition... thanks for the suggestions.

We're gonna need a bit more info than what was given. What kind of 305 motor is it? 305 TBI? 305 TPI? If it's a TPI motor then you scored bank on it especially with a 5 speed set up.

Chances are if its a 305 TPI motor, your auto tranny you have in the car now will do more than enough and will handle it just fine. As far as time and swap....that one's really hard. If you have a 90 RS and it's a V8 chances are its a 305 TBI. Now I don't wanna nit-pick or bad mouth TPI but alot of TBI and even TPI guys say its not worth swapping out a TBI for a TPI. Too much hassle for not enough gain. With a few decent mods such as exhaust, headers, intake, and possibly a cam and some chip work the TBI engine will be more powerful than the stock TPI engine. Its totally up to you. I was thinking of doing an LT1 swap into my RS but ultimately decided in the end that it wouldn't be worth the time, effort nor money I would be spending on it.

With the 4-5k I will be spending in total for the motor/tranny plus accessories and installation I could build my 305 motor fairly well. Granted I dunno if it will be as powerful as a stock LT1, but if not it should be prety damn close.

Dang a whole motor and tranny for that price. I would jump on it and even if you decide not to use it you are sitting on a small gold mine. Keep us informed on what you did.
