swap help
I have tried to wade through all the buracrap to find the answer on the massachusetts state RMV site. I emailed them, and so far have been shuffled between 3 departments, an nobody will answer my question. I want to know, in massachusetts, can I perform an engine swap? I would be willing to do a stock v8 setup for my year. Right now, I have a 2.8 v6. Any other MA residents on the board that have done the swap, or know the law? Thanks.

It's dictated by federal law & regulation. Chassis year or newer, passenger car type system, all factory or certified replacement equipment in place and operating.
Local law/regulation only deals with inspection & testing.

Would it be worth the money to swap a Stock v8 into my car for an extra 50 or so hp (the carbed) or even more money to get a TPI setup? five7kid, you probably have a unique perspective, having a Berli that is done up

Mine was emissions-legal with the enhanced dyno sniffer and full visual inspection while putting out around 250 rear wheel HP. It would be now if I had put the cat and A.I.R. back in when I put in the 350.
It isn't that hard to get nice power and remain emissions-legal. First you have to start with all of the factory equipment.
