swap
hey i can get my hands on a 305 out of a 86 iroc.. the trans is questionable and the motor has around prolly over 100k on it.. im trying to decide if this would be a good idea to get in replace if my 3.1...the 3.1 has a shot rear mainseal and maybea bad ground somewere. its been sitting inside my garage for over 1year now.. i dont knwo a whole lot about what im doing although i do have resources that can help me. but before i go asking them to help with a swap i wanna know if im gettin in over my head with time and money and reliablity.. its not a daily driver so im not concerned but its taking up space in my 1 car garage making my park my new s10 outside. i dont have alot ofmoney to spend on this but i do have enough to buy it and a lil more for some new parts if needed. ne help is appreciated.. thanks for helping the noob.

A good route to go would be to swap in a 3.4 V6. I dont know much about it but i think they use the 3.1 harness and all the 3.1 emission stuff. If you want to swap in a V8, you might have to swap over all the v6 front suspension for V8 suspension. If you're going through the trouble to swap in a V8 in a V6 car, in my opinion it should at least be a 350.
I'm thinking about doing the 3.4 swap with my 3.1. Wouldn't have to swap trannies, could keep the wire harness. It doesn't sound too bad. I think the 3.4 aren't too pricey either. If you want more info, go over to the V6 board.
