415+cid crate engine options and experiences...

Well, I would like to know peoples opinions and perhaps experiences if there is any. So far I have saved up the money I need to buy a pretty stout engine, but there is alot of choices, and perhaps even more traps to go into.

My number one "want" was the world products 427 520 hp deal. it's about $10000 so it's not pocketchange. But lately I have been thinking that at that price, I don't like it when they state "these engines are meant for non emmision applications"

I mean, for that amount of money they should at least have some idea of what it puts out of co nox etc. I In my country I get to go without air and cat, but have to meet the 3.5 or 4.0 co emmision level. Now I don't exactly know which engine would pass and what not, but on the other hand, I'm not the one building them either.

Another thing about this engine is since they recently have added a "world class" version (lower hp) and "daily driver" at 420 hp version, that suggests to me their 520 hp version is in reality undrivable, and may very well rattle the car to pieces.

It's just that one can get alot of 383's with 420 hp for half the price of the 427, so I'm staring to question if there is really any point. Also I would like things to clear the hood. THw world products or dart block I want for "down the road".

I'm not looking to make it a racecar, only a fast street coupe, who I may be able to drive on summer weekations, hence no enginebuild by myself for relaibility. I've looked into the shafiroff 434's and some of coast high performance's versions. Coast's seem to only use stock blocks where shafiroff and of course world uses WP blocks.

What would really have been nice would be the new z06 ls7 427 with 500 hp and daily driver abilities. Problem is it's a littl too steep, and require alot of other things to fit and work in my car. Isn't there a way of having comparable results as the zo6 ls7 but with a iron smallblock?

Any who have any experience driving any of these crate angines as daily drivers or at all?

No experience from the buying aspect, but the 520hp version would most definitely be UNSTREETABLE because of the cam duration and the compression would never run on less than prolly 118 octane. The 427 420hp version would be more streetable, and make more torque than a 383 with the same amount of HP.

kind of high but very stout and streetable. i checked out a lpe vette with that 427. it was barly noticable exept for a little rumble. oh and the guy wanted 100k for it.

or you could get a lt1 with a turbo or nos, that would get you 500hp at 1/2 the cost. and all the drivabilty of a stock v-8.
