CFI 305 to SBC 400 Swap. Removing excess wiring. (updated please help!)
Alright.. My car is a 1982 Camaro Z28 that originally came equiped with a 305 Crossfire Injection motor. When we got it the engine was blown so we decided to drop a 400 small block in it. It's got a HEI distributor, holley 650 carb, and so forth.. pretty much nothing is electronic controlled on the motor anymore. Except the oil sending unit and the temp sensor. I was wondering if someone could supply me with wiring diagrams or photos explaining what all wires I can remove and where they go.. I've gotten tired of lifting the hood and seeing a cluster of wires dangling unused and crowding the engine bay.
Thanks for any info!!

Just an update... Got all of the wire looms taken off going from the passenger side engine compartment, down through the passenger fender well, and under the dash in the passenger compartment where the now dangling ECU wires are now dangling. Now there was a weather proof box type thing around the wires as they go from the outside into the kick pannel area of the inside of the car. I got the box opened and found the wires nicely encased in what appears to be hot glue or something of the like? Anyways my question is, how do I get this hot glue stuff off the wires so I can get them seperated and start pulling the unnecessary wires out?
Thanks,
Matt

You don't need any of those wires. Disconnect the exterior plug, take that/those harness/wires/sensors to a safe storage location.

Ya, about half of them run to unused connectors and sensors, while the other half run across to the driver side firewall and appear to go back into the drivers footwell area.. So I'm thinkin I'll need some of them..

Should go to more sensors/relays. About the only that could be of interest is the fuel pump relay.

Mechanical fuel pump on the 400 SBC... So do you know where I can find a diagram that shows the routing of all the wires? I thought I found something a long time ago when researchin for another project but can't remember where I found it. And I think you may be right.. It seems I remember there being something about some relays behind the heater controls and up under the driver side compartment. I'd just like to know for sure what ever wire goes to before unplugging anything. Thanks for your help so far.

The Haynes Camaro shop manual I got has very good schematics in it for the earlier years ('82-'84). However, that only shows the circuits, it doesn't show where the wires actually run or where the components actually reside. However, that shouldn't be a problem if you can follow a trail.
