305 4bbl to LT1
305 4bbl to LT1
I am getting an LT1 out of a 94 camaro and was wondering if it would bolt on to my transmission. I have an 87 with a 5.0 and I think its a 700r4 but Im not positive. Are there any websites that I can go to so I can get my vin ran and see what tranny I have, or do any of you guys know? Also, will everything bolt on properly or will some adjustments need to be done? Thanks alot for your help. O yea the LT1 is coming with harness and computer and all, so thats not a problem.
VIN won't tell you what tranny you have. Try to find the RPO codes on the door. More than likely if its an auto with overdrive its a 700r4.
You'll have to convert to Fuel injection. This means:
1) swapping hard lines with a fuel injected car and installing a fuel pump and sending unit in the gas tank. Its easier to do this with the engine out but i've accomplished it with the engine in.
2) Then installing custom lines from the hard lines to the fuel rails. TGO member Z 2 8 R I C E R might still make them or try lt1intake.com.
For a 94-97 Lt1 with a 700r4 you'll need:
1) 93 LT1 Throttle Valve cable
2) 93 throttle bracket
3) An adapter that Holley makes bolts on to the throttle body for the 93 throttle valve cable. I'm waiting on another member to find out the part number...
4) A 95(other years might work like 94-97) Lt1 4L60E VSS and reluctor. Remove 700r4 speedo gears and pound on the reluctor. May have to heat up the reluctor a little bit. Swap the VSS's.
5) Install A lockup kit from TCI.
6) Computer tuned to know its running a non-computer controlled automatic transmission
7) Adjust the 93 T.V. cable

Any chance of getting the engine and transmission out of the '94 Camaro? That would make life a lot easier.
The engine is already out of the other Camaro and on a stand, I should be getting it this weekend. I have done other swaps but they were all the same exact engine were everything lined up perfectly like fuel lines and cables and I didnt have to do any custom work. My friend and I are doing it at my school and there we have lifts and all the tools I could imagine so thats not a problem. How hard is it do you think, is it worth it or do you think I should go with a 350 4 bolt main block and run it with something like a 650 cfm edelbrock carb and intake manifold and then not have to worry about the computer and all that. Also have you ever seen any body run an LT1 with a carb to eliminate the comp or is it worth the work. Thanks alot for your help

Putting a Gen I 350 in would be fairly simple. You wouldn't need to change the carb or distributor, but would need knock sensor & module. See sig.
In my opinion, carbing an LT1 is like running bias ply tires and petroleum based oil. It will work, but you're looking at more drawbacks than benefits, as well as increased cost.
