Early 350 (5.7) two piece seal into '87 Iroc questions
I recently purchased an '87 Iroc, it needs some work, but reminds of the old Type LT I had back in '93... Enough history to the specifics:
The Iroc originally was equipped with a 350 (vin verified)
The former owner threw a rod in it at about 80,000 miles...and dropped in a 305.
The 350's induction setup was retained (it runs a BIT rich) and dropped onto the 305 with no changes, it runs okay, but puffs black smoke under hard acceleration, also a bit of fuel in the oil, like I said rich.
I have a coupla spare 350's BUT they are early engines ('73 SS Chevelle and '76 SS El Camino), I tried a search, but didn't find specifics for THIS type of swap.
I figure the 350 will be fairly compatible with the TPI setup as far as induction (a cam swap is probably in order), but will it bolt onto the early heads? I'm not real sure I want the 305 heads on the 350...but I can do that...
Should I just look for a newer setup, or can I fairly painlessly convert what I already have lying about? I realize there is an emissions issue but Kansas has no emissions test, a few ever check the date codes on the block...
I know I can swap the injectors and work with the computer to make the 305 work correctly, but this seems like a step backward instead...
Any ideas?
