Going Carb'd
Going Carb'd
Has anyone thrown a carb'd 350 into their 90's camaro? (duh, im sure someone has)
Im looking for some pics and maybe some insight on what all is involved, especially with the fuel system- like runing a low pressure fuel pump and making it work with the factory pickup tube.
Im also curious as to which electrical wires I can get rid of..
Thanks

I'm going to be putting a carb on my 91 firebird soon (maybe) and from what i've seen you can just buy a cheap little inline fuel pressure regulator from autozone to bring the fuel pressure down to the necassary 3-5lbs (i think). Hope that helps.

Thanks for the link..
My next questions (hang with me, I was spoiled with EFi and have little knowledge of carbs and distributors)
Im running a Holley red pump mounted above the rear axle. Will I need a return line running from the carb or no return line?
What year older f-body pick-up tube will work that doesnt have an efi pump on it?
Lastly, I bought a Mallory HEI distributor. Will I still need an ignition module with it?
Thanks

Your fuel pump setup - I dunno - I'm running stock TBI in-tank pump with Mallory 4309 regulator - the regulator must be a return style regulator (only 4-5 brands available) in order for a stock in-tank pump setup to work - that's why a cheap Autozone regulator WON'T work (if it did, we'd all saved the $80 on the Mallory and gotten one).
You'll need a vacuum advance HEI dizzy - not a comp controlled one.
You'll need linkage correctors for the TV cable on the 700R4 tranny.
You'll need to drop the pan on the 700R4 tranny and install new storque converter solenoids and wiring, and connect a vacuum switch to lock up the torque converter (this all sold as a kit).
Everything else bolts up, including the accessory brackets/serpentine setup (assuming you have accessory holes in the heads).

I can tell you why I did - no damn chip! I neither have the time or the patience to learn chip tuning - I want to be turning wrenches, or driving, not in front of this CPU (before dark). I modded my 1990 RS TBI, and it chokes on the chip now - and I got tired of throwing money at "chip tuners" just to get it up to barely running.
Emissions is gone for me now, so when I did the 350 in the 1992 RS, I junked all that mess, and followed the KISS rule - Keep It Simple Stupid!
And I must say, I love it!
