Considering LS1 swap

Assuming that I have everything to do the swap, ie motor, trans, harnesses, mounts, crossmember, everything, how hard is it?

not too bad, but you will need motor mount adapter plates and if your harness is factory, save a 100hrs and a lots of asprin, buy one (plug n play from painless wirring) there about $500. my brother found a template on the internet to make your own mount plates, other wise there about 150$ from street&performance. good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I was deff. going to get a Painless, I have been reading about alot of others that didn't, plus once I get everything I want to get it done as quick as possible. you know. I pretty much figured that If I have everything it should be fairly simple. I had an 85 that I swapped the v-6 for a 350 Carbed that was pretty descent.

your story is almost identical to mine. My car- '84 Trans Am. originally dumped the 305 for a 350 10 years ago, and am currently performing the LS1 swap.

I am also working on another LS1 swap in a differnt car and have a painless harnedss for that. They told me I had to have a '98 computer for the painless harness, though.

My '94 T/A is using a modified factory harness from speartech. It doens't look any harder than the painless, though. both are clearly labeled, etc. and the factory harness fits...

I purchased hte mounts from f-body motorsports for my T/A upgrade. The engine fits, but it's very tight. I'm trying to make it emmisions legal, so the 4th exhaust will need modification. the cats/ exhaust dosn't fit correctly and needs re angling ot work. then it'll need a custom head pipe to meet with the rest of the exhaust.

the 4th gen tank fit great, though. I was very happy about that. get a later tank if you can, as the filler neck is rubber/ separate part and is much easier to shorten than the earlier metal ones. Also easier to install, too. (the 4th gen tank filler neck is too long for the 3rd gen car, it needs trimming)

I also used the 4th gen fuel lines for the 3rd gen. only minor trimming under the driver seat area to remove the excess bends and slight modification in front. the rest bolted right up.

I hope this is helpful
