New engine or new parts?

I have a stock as far as i know 305 TBI on a 89 convertible Camaro RS. Im wondering if its worth putting tons of money into that engine to make it faster or just buying a whole complete new engine (money is an issue). or should i just say screw sell my car buy an Iroc with a 350 TPI so i have a better starting platform? what do u guys think?
