Preparing for LT1 install

Anyone take pictures before of the wiring installation using a Caprice (93) wiring harness in a late 89's fbody car? Just trying to plan as much ahead of the installation, I only have the one car and a motorcycle and have to try to prepare everything before tearing out the TPI 305 motor and installing the LT1.
For those of you that have made the swap and used the donor harness, did you just splice into the harness where it goes into the exisiting harness and if so does the old ecm diagnostic plug still work if wired properly? I want the installation to be easy but It's more important that everything works, I already have a 4l60 trans out of a 93 Camaro in my car now so there's no issues there, I just need to regasket the motor, change out the difficult sensors, install new wires and hard to access electrical components, and decide on the exhaust. I have Edelbrock shorty headers on my old block but I'm not sure if the're D port headers, I seem to recall them being round port.

Anyhow, I do want to thank those of you that have posted your installs and struggles, the information is very usefull. I especially want to thank Klortho, mat89rs and a couple of others who's names escape me right now for the time you've spent helping others and the lenths you have gone to do so. Maybe some day I'll have mine installed too and my car won't just handle good but go fast too.

'93 Caprice's didn't have LT1s. The B-body didn't get the LT1 until '94. Having the right year may help with your wiring.

Also, the '93 4L60 is EXACTLY the same as a 700-R4, and is not the computer shifted 4L60-E that came behind all but '93 LT1s. All this really means is you'll need an extra linkage bracket on your throttle for the TV cable.

I spoke to the seller, its actually a 95' not as I originally thought, now I suppose I'll have to get my hands on a maf and either have to program out the trans codes or upgrade my 4l60 with a different tailshaft in order to supply the ecm with the vss signal.

Thanks

it's a very involved task to swap tailshafts, You may as well rebuild the whole trans(or pay someone because it's a very finicky trans and not recommended for trans beginners). However, the late 700R4/4L60 uses an electric VSS that runs off the gear, so that should be all you need. Also, you don't need to have the trans programmed out, but you will get a check engine light if you don't.

I don't have extensive experience with trans repairs but I am a master tech so that helps a little, the trans was rebuilt sometime in the last couple of years, I just installed it last summer when my 700r4 had a planetary gear fail. It actually still works and if I decide to rebuild one it would likely be that one and update it while doing the rebuild.
