Dubbed: Project Stupid.

I originally lost all interest in my camaro, about a year ago. It had a 2.8L mpfi v6 in it and has broke just about everything imaginable. Since i bought it, I've restored and replaced everything, I'm up to about $8000 into the car between motors, clutches, completely new interior, ect. Well I saw it sitting there the other day and i sat in it and miss it. So I'm going to upgrade that hunk of metal.

The motor I'm going to be putting in, is a 4.3L V6 which I'm told is about the same amount of work as putting in a sbc. Fine with me, the reasoning for doing a 4.3 as opposed to a 5.7 is it's going to be turbo. My talon has kind of made me a boost freak. I want the space that i won't have with a v8 to add in turbo, wastegate, all the intercooler piping, the fmic (front mount intercooler for you non-turbo people) and such. The donor car is a 89 s10 blazer.

I just wanted to know if anyone has ever done this or any info, problems ect. that i will run into. Also any comments on what you all think. The only person I told thought it was a great idea, as well as i think. It would basically end up being a lot like a syclone/typhoon.

Give people a chance. You posted on a work day, last work day of the week, many people won't get back on the Board until Sunday or Monday, it's an odd swap, etc., etc., etc.

I copied it to the Power Adder forum to see if you can get any bites from that crowd.

My personal opinion? You're biting off a lot, it is unusual, so you're going to be doing most of the figuring out on your own. I know member ede has a 4.3 in his 3rd gen bracket racer, but it's NA. He might be able to shed some light on the engine install details, but mostly you're going to be figuring this out as you go, I would guess.

Hi,

I think its a great idea because of the front space in
the bay. Going to need the nowhow or know someone
that does with fabrication.

Look what the stock Grand Nationals do performance
wise. Plus what you save engine upgradewise you can
put into the turbo end of it

Sorry about the time thing, i'm used to my dsm forum which moves ok. People are usually on all day at work.

The swap shouldn't be too bad, I'm learning about the 4.3 now from an s10 forum. The swap part it self shouldn't be too bad, i have most everything, mounts and such should all line up the same. I hope! We'll find out.

the space in the front was the reasoning for doing the 4.3 as opposed to sbc. I'll be doing the fabrication end by myself. I can weld, as well as cut to make the fmic work. But the motor is 100% different than a GNX, they have the 3.8L which is a completely different block. The setup I'll be using is much more like what you see in the syclone/typhoons. And I'll be stealing parts from them as well, like the connector pipe and some of that stuff. But I'll keep sharing my quest with everyone. I should start pulling the motor/harness/ecu out of the s10 maybe monday.

I do know from a buddy of mine that has a Typhoon that the standard 4.3's that came in the Blazers and Astro vans can't handle the boost. He has seen people say where they tried it and even with only 10 lb of boost, blew the complete bottom end out of the motor. When they put the turbos on the 4.3's in the Syclone and Typhoons they actually used a different block, crank, rods etc etc. You may want to look over on Sy/Ty and see what's going on with that.

there is a ton of stuff out there that you can get for the 4.3. do it up! is the 1989 motor a vortech? if not get a set of vortec heads from a newer 4.3

1. i'm already signed up on an syty forum, first thing i did when i got the idea, seeing as they are the top notch 4.3 auto.
2. the motor will not be a stock drop and go with a turbo on it. I'm looking into building the motor with ross pistons, eagle rods, and making sure i find a 4bolt 4.3L block. and yes the 3/4 350 idea was designed specifically so i have space for intercooler/piping
