my engine blew last week on my '82, and am planning on buying a complete drive train next week. I need help choosing an engine (305.… because I have to pass CA smog laws), trans (maybe a Tremec T5), and rear end (maybe ford 9 inch). I have $10k to spend, can anyone help me pick out the best set up, or critique my current choices??

 

you can build a 350 to pass smog ??

If I were in your situation, id look for a T-56.
I doubt you'll need a 9" if you do keep the 305, unless
you mod the hell out of the 305 and SC it ..



by the way, just noticed you have a 4 spd BW, its far stronger that the 5 spd,
unless an aftermarket one.

 

If you have i would definatley go with a ls1 swap. You con get a used motor and t56 trans/new wiring harness/headers/ and all neccessary hardware for less than 7k and make a lot more power.

 

You can buy the whole car for cheap, and sell off
some parts to recover money too..
