What's the difference between engines ?
Hi, My name is Tony and I have a 91 Camaro with a 305 Tbi in it. Which I want to swap and put in a a 350 engine from Scoggin-Dickey 350/290 hrs pwr #12499529. Now I call Scoggin-Dickey and they said that the engine would'nt work if I were to keep my Tbi.
Why would the engine care if the fuel supply is Tbi or carb ? Should it still work ?Please if anybody has done this type of swap please e-mail me at tcmcfarlans@yahho.com and guide me in the right direction .
Thanks,
Tony

Welcome aboard.
The engine will work, it's the TBI that won't. At least, it won't work as-is, which is really what they were saying. It will require modification, starting at the simple things such as the center-two intake mount bolts on each side being at a different angle on your current engine but all at the same angle as the rest on the 350 you're talking about. And needing a different flexplate. The real modifications come to the calibration of the TBI, as it really does need to know what size engine it is on. It doesn't sense the flow of air going into the engine, but has been set to assume a certain amount of air going into the engine based on vacuum, throttle position, engine speed, etc., which changes when you put a larger engine under it. It even changes when you put better exhaust on your 305. This requires re-burning the PROM in the computer.
Check out the information available on the TBI forum. They've already done all the homework for you for this swap, and can tell you what needs to be done in order to make it work.
