this is just a thought, but ive been thinking about building a 406 for my L98 formula 350. i was wondering if the motor mounts are the same and if the accesories would be in the same place, seems to me like they would be...but i could be wrong, thanks in advance.

Yes, you are correct. However, you will need to use the 168-tooth 400 flexplate and most likely have to get a different starter than the one you now have on the car.

everything will work, except:

1. you need to drill steam holes in the heads. not hard. the heads can still be used on non-400 SBCs too.
2. you need a external balance harmonic dampener.
3. you need a external balance flexplate/flywheel.
4. you may need a new starter to match the flywheel/flexplate.

I have a 406 with Edelbrock heads in my 69 Camaro. I've swapped in the serpentine belt system from a 90 Iroc and it fits just right. Alot easier than all those pulleys and vbelts. I will use the modified belt setup that bypasses the smog pump.

I agree, check your starter mounting. I had to drill a new hole in my block in a gravel driveway on my back because I didn't check the starter before installing the engine
