302 LT1 85 Z28

Hello all. I am new to the site and so far I can see that there is some pretty good info here. This friday I will be going to pick up my first f body. Its a 85 z28 with the 305 tpi. Its a little rough in the paint dept but its my new project. I have done two lt1 swaps myself already, one for a customers 84 z28 with 95 lt1 and t56, the other for my buddies 79 monte with an auto. So my question has less to do with how to get it in and more to do with what to put in. I want to take the crank and rods from the baby 4.3 lt1 and put it in a 5.7 lt1 block to make a 302 lt1. Have any of you done or seen this done. I want to build a new version of the dz302. Something that revs high I can put in front of the t56 for a little fun. Tell me what you think. I know it can be done just wondering if its worth it.

Try to find a copy of Hot Rod magazine Sept 1997. There is an article describing exactly what you are looking to do. The article describes a carb'd 302 LT1 that sports 411 hp @ 6,250 revs and a torque peak of 372 lb-ft @ 4,750 rpm. This resides betwixt the fenderwells of a '67 Z28. It is hooked to a BW T56 with a 4:88 rear end. There is also a mate: 1997 302 LT1 with EFI that produces 350 horses at 6,250 rpm, with 335 lb-ft tq @ 5800 rpm.

Good hunting,
Tim sends

I'm sure many people will tell you to put a 383 in there but I think you should go with the 302. I've always loved the idea of a 3rd gen Z28 with the engine character of a first gen, and with a t56 and the right gearing it would certainly be lots fun, and definitely unique.

Thats why I want to do it. Kinda a reamake on the old 69. That and all the mustang guys around here think that a 5.0 chevy isnt as good. Just a thought I have had. I am supposed to pick my car up this saturday so I guess it begins from here.

or you could build the 305 with a retrofit lt1 intake and build some good power out of that...
