heat coated 350 headers
heat coated 350 headers
Hey everyone,
I am new to this site and I've already learned so much about my car. I bought a 1984 Camaro Z28 that already had a 350 HO swap. The car was almost perfect, but the engine needed a little upgrading. I've added a new Edelbrock performer series carb and also replaced the AC compressor to help deal with this Florida heat. My next project is to replace the crappy headers with a pair of heat coated ones, but when I look for headers for this car I can't seem to find the right ones. Some say for 350 HO but with auto tranny and some ask for what generation the 350 is. This is my first 350 and I need a little help. It is a carbureted 350 HO w/ no computer and a solid 5 speed tranny. Anybody have suggestions for a pair of headers?

by the way, are ceramic coated headers the same as getting a heat coating? I was thinking about sending the headers to jet hot, but if ceramic coated headers will do the same thing, then that will save some time.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Never heard of "heat coated". I'm trying to imagine what that might consist of, but I'm coming up short. I've had a couple of sets of headers that were "ceramic coated" however. I'll never put an uncoated set on a street car again.
Jet Hot does ceramic coating. Not whatever the other thing is. I've used them before, with good results.
The reason you can't find headers for a 350, is because no 350 ever came in the car. Not a fruitful thing to be looking for.
305 headers are identical in every way to 350 headers, with the possible exception of the choice of tubing diameter. Typically you'd want to make 305 headers with smaller diameter tubing than for a 350, but not always.
If you want something that will bolt up to your stock exhaust, I'd suggest either Edelbrock TES for the 305 HO (L69) part # 6874; or SLP. If you get SLP, get 1¾" diameter # 30001C (already coated), and get the correct adapter from them (I think it's 30036, with the 4 bolt flange) to fit to your existing exhaust. Also, get their "installation kit", there's a bracket in it that will save you a bunch of time and trouble.
Both of those fit fine in my car with a T-5 and A/C, on a variety of motors. Currently the SLPs are still in it, with a T-56.

great. thanks. I was reading in another forum about heat tape wrap vs. heat coatings. I'm guessing from what you told me that ceramic coatings are actually "heat coatings". I was looking at the SLP 30001C so I guess i was looking at the right one. Thanks for the info on the adapter kit.
