305 TBI to L98 Vette 350
305 TBI to L98 Vette 350
Hey guys, i'm still motor shopping for my Camaro, had some things come up so I've had to delay my project. I came across an L98 Long Block out of a Vette, and i'm tempted to buy it. But I have some questions that I hope y'all can answer.
1.) Will my 305 Accessories Bolt onto this engine?
2.) What will I need to do this swap?
3.) Are the accessory brackets different, and if so can I swap the Camaro's bracket onto this engine? If I can't what modifications do I need to make to get it to fit?
4.) I've read about spedometer issues, I don't plan on switching out mine until later. Do I need to do this now or will it be okay?
5.) Do I need to switch to the dual fan assembly? Or will my single fan do the job?
Thanks for your answers guys, I hope this is doable. And with a little luck i'll have her running by the time winter hits.

Your accessories will swap over to the Vette engine. What year is it? If aluminum heads, you might be short one bracket mount bolt hole, that's a matter of drilling and tapping.
You will need a TPI ECM appropriate for the year/type. You will also need a TPI in-tank electric fuel pump and f-body TPI throttle cables, fuel & coolant hoses, etc..
No speedometer problems just from changing the engine. If you use the Vette transmission, then you've got some things to address.
Your single fan will probably be okay except in hot weather stop & go, AC-on situations.

The "typical" "complete" TPI system would include the fuel rails and injectors, and possibly the hoses. Ask for as much as you can get, including the engine harness & ECM, throttle cables.
The fuel pump is sometimes included, again, can't hurt to ask for it. Coolant hoses and fans would not. Again, ask, they just may include all that.

I think I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you meant a TPI unit from a 305 to put on the Vette engine.
You're actually looking at a complete 305 TPI engine, right? vs. the Vette TPI - basically the same issues and amount of work. I would go for the 350.

Buy them both. Put the 305 heads on the 350 block after you have the heads reworked for 1.94" intake valves, basic bowl blending, and new valve springs & retainers.
That makes for a good-running combo.
