why dont my mounts line up? LT1

'92 RS TBI to LT1

Bought new stock clamshells, bolted the buckets to the new block (in the same manner (i.e. right and left and whatnot). Dropped the engine, lined up the left mount, and the right clamshell is like almost a half inch off and the engine looks cockeyed as if it needs to come toward the rear on that side a little more. Is the clamshell not in the right spot? Buckets need to be switched?

Help if at all possible.

Clamshells have got to be in the furthest holes on both sides of the block. Driver side bolts up to where the 4th gen mount bolted, passenger side will bolt in the holes in front of where the 4th gen mount was bolted.

Driver side

Passenger side

Yeah I believe they're bolted in those locations, I had to tap the hole on the block on the drivers side I believe. I dunno, maybe its an optical illusion. Did I have to remove the clamshell and move that back or something?

Nope, they go in those locations. Unless the hole was stripped out, you shouldn't have had to tap any hole. They should have all been tapped from the factory, as long as you have both clamshells in the right location on the block, and the frame mounts are in the V8 location (toward the front) you should be fine.

You may be able to see them in these pictures here.

there may/should be another set of holes on one side of the block. I made the same mistake in 99 when i put an impala LT1 in my 79 vette. I had one mount bolted to the block upside down. i believe on one side there are 4 holes, by flipping the mount, youll see it will line up with one other hole. if you need a better explination email me at smokingss@optonline.net and i'll draw up a pic and show you.
