90" RS 305-???
90" RS 305-???
I have a 1990 5 spd 305 rs and I feel the need for much much more. I m not rolling in the dough but have the resources for an engine for a descent price and I am able to put a new engine in a car but I dont have the knowledge of which engines are which. So my question is what engine would be the best to put in this car with the least modifications? 350 or 427? I dont want a 454 because I know thats a bit too much as this is my daily driver and gas is somewhat of an issue. Also, would I be able to put a tranny and rearend from a newer z28 because I would rather have disc brakes instead of drums. Any advise helps!! Please help me!! No more 305 soon!!
Well I just decided to go 350 because after tons of research it just seems like a more reasonable choice...my new question is will the rear end and tranny be able to handle a 350...im looking at some crate 350's..whats the best place to buy from(ready to go)??

350 to be sure.
But, you need understand that it's the total package that lets an engine make power. You can't expect to put a 350 in place of a 305 without upgrading the exhaust and have it run well. Ditto with PROM tuning. If fuel economy needs to stay in the mix, you're best off retaining some form of EFI.
You might try starting on the TBI forum and see what those guys do to get performance out of that system while retaining good driveability and economy. Duplicating what they're doing is a good place to start.

well i already have a full exhaust except for headers(which I am sure will have to change anyway with a 350). It does have a aftermarket cat(not sure what kind) and the muffler is a flowmaster.
