I hope this is the right place for this. I have a 1984 Z-28. It currently has the stock 305, 4bbl. I just got off the phone with Jasper Engines and I got a couple of prices. First off has anyone bought a Jasper motor? My next question is which of the following motors would you guys recommend:

Stock 305 reman.- $1,849.00 + $350 core (+ labor if I don't do it my self)

Class 1 305- (same as stock with a couple more ponies) $1,974.00

Class 2 305- 250 horse power. This one is a higher power more for the race or performance. $2,301

This is the one I am thinking about getting.

350- 300 horse power. $1,969.00 + $350 core (but they said they would drop half of that)


I think the 350 is the best offer they have. I am not to sure because I don't know if I want to invest the kind of money I need to invest in my Camaro. Well let me know what you all think. Also let me know if you have dealt with Jasper or know of anything I should watch out for. Thanks.

 

300 HP 350 seems to be a pretty decent deal, don't go with another 305. But keep looking around, check the internet or E-bay, you can find some good motor deals there. However, if you're unsure you can or want to spend the money that it will require then you might wait until you have more saved up. Engine swaps cost alot more than you plan. (For crate motors about 1.5 times as much seems to be about right. For a custom built motor it's closer to 2 times as much and yet for me my engine swap seems to be about 3 times as much! )

 

My mechanic swears by Jasper for replacement engines. He won't buy from anybody else.
