Possible LT1 350 Motor buy, but there is a problem
Well guys, it turns out I know of someone who had an unfortunate accident with his car. Apparently, one of the fuel lines in the underhood split, causing the car to catch fire under the hood.
It was a 94 Trans Am, 6 spd transmission. The LT1 motor had about 145k miles on it, but it was completely rebuilt from top to bottom. This includes a new cam, machine work, the whole lot.
Now the engine did catch fire but I don't think anything internally burned. It needs a new wiring harness thats for sure, new fuel lines. And the lot.
I think I can get him down to about 1000 with the tranny and motor, I figured it would be another 1k to get the motor up and running again. Roughly, the motor probably had about 420hp at the crank.
I am still gathering info, I dunno if its a bad idea, or if it will be a long term problem. But I will delve into the motor if I do buy it.
So what do you guys think

My conversion project estimates have been about twice the original estimate. Blame it on the un-forseen glitches and upgrades that always work their way into the plan. If I were working up this conversion estimate (assuming that you'd purchase new parts), I'd ball park the harness, sensors, ecm, tuning, repairs, ++ misc. a lot more agressively... maybe somewhere in the $2,000+ area?
$1000 might be a good price for the motor and 6 speed trans "if" they're in good working or repairable condition and you personally know the individual that owns the car.
Good luck!

Save yourself the heart break and walk away. The engine caught fire... You would have to rebuilt at the very least the top end anyways and if it had an accident in the first place who knows what kind of damage that engine suffered in the first place. It would be different if it was a side swipe or a rear ending. But from the sounds of it, it had occured in the great valley of small block heaven.
Walk away..
